NRA Concealed Carry Weapon Course?
The NRA CCW Course is a new course offering by the NRA, out this year. We have secured this very important skill building course to our clients. This course is adaptable to all states and situations. For example, we have two carry licenses here in Idaho. This course fills a specific course for ID CCW licensing and a separate one specifically for ID Enhanced CCW Licensing, but both would be NRA CCW Courses.
How is it different than a CCW course by any instructor?
The course is developed to be modular, which means the course can be from two hours to 16 hours long. Different state have different requirements, the course accommodates that. It is also important because it will be a standardized training that will be across many states, this will bring consistency to self defense instruction and education nationwide. So, the same course you take here, if the modules are the same, will be the same course you would take in Texas or Florida.
NRA CCW Modules
The NRA uses modules to break down the course into state specific requirements. If the state has few, there are few modules. When the state requires 16 hours of training and a portion to be taught by a lawyer, there is room for that as well. Here are the modules of instruction:
- Firearm Safety
- Pistol Nomenclature and Selecting a Pistol for Self-Defense
- Ammunition Knowledge and Defensive Ammunition Selection
- Basic Defensive Pistol Skills
- Drawing from Concealment
- Loading and Stoppage Remediation
- Mindset, Responding to an Attack and the Aftermath
- Carry Modes and Pistol Concealment
- Firearm Cleaning and Maintenance
- Sport Shooting and Training Activities
When can we take the course?
I will be offering the certification style, experienced shooters, course starting in September. The Idaho Enhanced style course will be added when an appropriate instructor for the Law Enforcement Officer/Lawyer can be secured.
